Hearing Aid Styles

Behind-the-Ear (BTE)

  • This style sits comfortably behind the ear and is connected to a custom earmold or a dome that fits inside the ear canal.
  • BTEs are powerful and suitable for various degrees of hearing loss.
  • They’re often more visible but can accommodate larger batteries for longer battery life and additional features.

Receiver-in-Canal (RIC)
Receiver-in-the-Ear (RITE)

  • Similar to BTE, but the speaker (receiver) is placed inside the ear canal instead of the main body behind the ear.
  • RICs are less visible and provide a more natural sound because the sound is delivered directly into the ear canal.
  • Most popular style of hearing aid due to the discrete appearance and bluetooth functionality.

In-the-Ear (ITE)

  • These are custom-made to fit within the outer portion of the ear.
  • ITEs are meant for those individuals who may have dexterity issues and are not concerned with appearance of devices as ITEs are more noticeable when compared to RICs.

Completely-in-the-Canal (CIC)

  • These devices fit entirely inside the ear canal, making them nearly invisible.
  • CICs are cosmetically appealing but will not accommodate certain features or moderate to severe/profound hearing loss due to their small size.
